The “Astroparticle School” contest ended on the 20th of September with an awarding-day at Frascati National Laboratories. 87 students were welcomed at Frascati with two talks by LNF researchers and with a special guided tour of Dafne, Ada and the Detectors Exhibition “OpenDetectors”.
This initiative, promoted by INFN with the cooperation of the Azienda Napoletana Mobilità (ANM) and the Rotary International and under the auspices of the Ufficio Scolastico Regionale (USR), involved 18 high schools from Campania, which realized 26 scientific projects related to the cosmic ray telescope installed by INFN at the Toledo underground station of Naples in 2014.
The Liceo scientifico Galileo Galilei of Naples was awarded first place for the realization scheme of an online platform on cosmic rays; the ITI Renato Elia of Castellammare di Stabia won second place for the construction of solar panels connected to an electrolytic cell; finally the ITI Pacinotti of Scafati won the third prize for working on the analysis of Radon isometric curves in the municipalities adjacent to their school. A special mention went to the Liceo Virgilio of Pozzuoli for realizing two small wood models of cosmic ray detectors to be used for dissemination activities.
